5 /5 Jonathan Caverly: Had a fantastic breakfast the other morning at Black Bear Diner in Lakewood. From the moment you walk in, it just feels like home—clean, cozy, and welcoming. The service is absolutely top-notch. Vanessa, Jesse, and Tyzhanae not only kept my glass full and brought out hot, delicious food, but also brought great banter and genuine conversation that made the whole experience feel like I was among friends.
What really stands out, though, is how they treat my 86-year-old dad. He walks with a cane and has hearing and vision challenges—and maybe a few dated comments here and there—but they always find a table close by, speak up when needed, and treat him with the same kindness and patience they’d show their own dad or grandpa. That kind of compassion is rare, and it means the world.
Dinner service is just as wonderful. Shelly and the evening crew bring the same warmth and care, making every visit a pleasure.
All in all, this is a truly great family diner—delicious meals, exceptional service, and the kind of place that makes you feel like you belong.

The review from “ Honest Reviewer” is extremely unfair and from a chronic negative reviewer, take it from a regular, this is a great place
