2 /5 Kathy Richardson: No PT today. Instead it was traffic court in Puyallup to ask for a reduction of a ticket we got on the way to a PT appointment in Puyallup back in March. Ray did not completely stop while making a right turn in a red light and the traffic camera caught him. It is pretty hard to contest video. He wasn’t going fast, not that it makes it right, but he has a perfect driving record, so the ticket was reduced.
We had passed Mrs. Turner’s on the way so we decided to stop there afterwards. I had fond memories eating there with parents and grandparents as a kid. Their fried chicken was the best. I had eaten there a few more times since then, but it has easily been 20 years since I was there last.
The restaurant was relatively empty when we entered. Several tables still needed to be cleaned, including ours, before we could be seated. She brought out two clean cups but still put the same ones which had been sitting unused back down after wiping the table. We should have left them.
Our server was friendly and brought us menus and water right away. We both ordered coffee. It has been quite some time since I have had coffee as thin and tasteless as this was. No amount of cream or sugar helped. Ray drinks his coffee black and agreed it was pretty weak tasting and somewhat bitter.
I decided on a build your own omelette with Kielbasa and cheddar cheese. Hash browns were the only potato option. I chose sourdough toast instead of pancakes. I have no idea if I chose well. Ray ordered the waffle with strawberries and whipping cream, and 2 scrambled eggs.
Our meals arrived and Ray’s waffle was without the strawberries. Our server immediately and kindly took the waffle back to the kitchen to have it covered in strawberries and whipping cream.
Ray’s waffle was OK. The strawberries were hard, woody, and tasteless. They were just like the crappy ones I bought at the grocery store last week.
I was suspicious of the Kielbasa when my omelette was delivered. I was right. My omelette was made with a hotdog and the entire omelette was swimming in grease. I debated sending it back but did not. The hash browns were OK, as was the toast. One side of the toast had a big blob of butter between the two pieces. The other side had none.
The restaurant wasn’t slammed busy and neither was the kitchen. The rest of the diners were finishing meals. Only 2 other people came in after us. I did not see other meals, like take out orders, leaving the kitchen, besides their orders.
I read the story on the back of the menu. They have changed owners a few times and so has the quality. One table is full of inexpensive jewelry for sale and the entire counter in front of the till has more of the same.
The entrance has items for sale as you walk through the front door. It is hard to tell if it a restaurant or trinket store.
Sadly, our entire meal was a disappointment. The bratty child at the next table didn’t help the atmosphere. We won’t be back. Sorry.
