2 /5 Miguel Romero: We’ve been to The New Mexicans three times since April, and our experiences have been a mixed bag.
Our first visit was excellent—great service, great vibe, and food that actually reminded us of home in New Mexico. That first impression had us excited to come back. Unfortunately, the last two visits have fallen short.
Service has slowed noticeably. On both recent trips, it took forever just to get our drink orders taken, and when drinks finally arrived, they came out alongside our food. That might be forgivable if the food delivered, but sadly, it hasn’t.
The biggest letdown has been the flavor—or rather, the lack of it. The beans, pulled pork, and even the burger all tasted bland, with nothing standing out until I added green chile to bring some life to the dish. For a restaurant carrying the name The New Mexicans, the flavors should be bold, layered, and true to what makes New Mexican cuisine so unique.
That said, there are a couple bright spots: the margaritas are consistently strong and well-balanced, and the sopapillas have been perfect every time—warm, fluffy, and a highlight we genuinely look forward to.
As New Mexican natives, we were really hoping for a place we could keep coming back to, but right now it feels like the quality and consistency just aren’t there.
