1 /5 Erica Spencer: Gym was fine when it was in use. Cancelling our membership was an absolute NIGHTMARE. My husband is in the military and he forgot to cancel our membership before he left on deployment. I called and spoke to Terry THREE times from February 1st through today and I am still not sure if our membership is cancelled due to the fact that she hung up on me and will not answer my phone calls. The first phone call she was not in the gym (is she ever?) but she would take down my info and cancel when she was next in the building. She was unsure when that would be as they were expecting snow. Alright, fine. But thats not my fault nor should I be penalized for that. She also stated she has a 35 day cancellation policy (35 days, who does that??) but ok, whatever. I told her I understood that and lets go ahead and get it cancelled ASAP. 2nd phone call, she is not there again (shocker) and took down my information to again cancel our membership when she was in the building. Now here we are 27 days after my initial phone call. I call today and she is actually there (Eureka!!). I was glad thinking I was going to be able to take care of this quickly. I was wrong. She asked when my initial phone call was. I said, I can look on my phone but I believe it was end of January/beginning of February before a snow. Either way, I knew we were inside of her 35 day window, whatever. She said, that snow was two week ago "darlin" as if I were trying to suggest I shouldnt be charged for the upcoming month. Shes desperate for the almost $70 apparently as the gym never had much use in the time we were there. Then she says she requires written notice of the cancellation. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! This wasnt almost four weeks ago when I first called. I am in Indiana, my husband is deployed so we could only provide written notice via letter. I would have done so 27 days ago but she didnt mention that until now. I informed her I looked online for an email or website so I could write, but was unable to find one. She then stated, its on my business card. You mean the business card I couldve gotten from the gym I havent used in MONTHS!? For the 3rd time, I am in Indiana and my husband is deployed. We dont have access to your business card. At this point I am extremely frustrated and stated, "I am not sure why you are being so difficult, I just want to get this cancelled" and which point she stated I was the one being difficult, hung up on me and didnt answer when I tried to call back. If you are looking for a gym with an absentee owner and patrons who dont clean the machines after use, this is the place for you! I mean seriously, she never goes there, when does any of it get cleaned? Hopefully theres a third party. I always cleaned machines before I used them when I went. Ugh. Upon returning to Whidbey Island, we will definitely drive into Oak Harbor to go to the gym. Its not worth the trouble of dealing with someone so unprofessional and disorganized. I would suggest other gym goers to do the same.
