5 /5 Fester Carter: Our household got the best holiday gift this year - a great full service/sit-down Indian food restaurant in the heart of Port Angeles with a full menu!
The Great Indian Restaurant just opened today (Monday, 12/22) in place of Moby Ducks, 222 N. Lincoln. We were knocking down their doors right at the 11am grand opening time to be their first eager customers...and it was well worth the trip down.
They have a very complete menu with many of the favorites, along with some things we havent seen even in the heart of what should be called "Little Indian" in the SF Bay Area, which is littered with great Indian food options.
Our entrees were both fabulous, the samosas quite flaky and yummy; next time Im opting to have them with channa masala and chutneys in the chaat appetizer. My partner loved his chicken tikki masala, and I was blown away by the well-balanced spices and flavors in the channa saag (level 3) I had. Breads were limited on the first day, but they had a decent basic paratha that was fine for scooping and dipping food - we are looking forward to the naans and flavored parathas on future visits. We were offered and eagerly accepted a delicious gulab jamun for dessert, which is not yet on the menu; that paired well with a very tasty mango lassi, and ensured we got full-blown carb overload! (-:
The owner told us that he will probably be adding desserts to the menu, and is even considering Indian pizza - a hybrid of American pizza with curry-spiced sauces and things like tandoori chicken or paneer toppings which - trust me - is a major treat! Even without those, though, we were very satisfied with the selection Great Indian offered.
If you havent had Indian food, now is a great time to try it, where you have a good selection of dishes in a restaurants setting - although PA does have a very decent option in Tasty that weve enjoyed for years and will still frequent for Indian take-out.
