2 /5 Aaron Archer: I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it really missed the mark.
The server was new and didnt know the answers to many of my questions, but they were courteous and took the time to ask another for the information I requested.
Being my first time here, I wanted to order several items; I ended up ordering three dishes.
1. The BBQ burger was recommended as popular, so I gave it a shot and ordered it medium rare. As you can see from the photo, it came out well done. That was not a huge surprise, but after the server confirmed that the kitchen could make the burger to order, it was rather funny. The burger itself was just okay; tasted like a cheap burger from a greasy spoon kind of place (which I love sometimes) with some BBQ sauce squeezed on top. Overall Id give the burger a 2 out of 5.
2. Next was the fish and chips. I was looking forward to trying them, and since the dish is in the restaurants name, I was hopeful. Sadly, the fish was another letdown. While it did come out nice and hot, the breading on the fish was unlike anything I have ever experienced. The seasoning was fine, but the breading was so thick that it seemed to be almost a hybrid of a proper fish & chips and a fish cake. Consequently, the outside was crispy, then there was a soggy gummy layer, then the rather bland white fish. Overall, and Im sorry to do this, but Id give this a 1 out of 5.
3. I had already ordered the teriyaki, so I couldnt back out now. Luckily, this was actually the best dish I had. The chicken was actually pretty okay; it was juicy and flavorful with a nice heat to it. Unfortunately, the chicken was accompanied by soggy overcooked rice, not a little overcooked and Im nitpicking, but it was really overcooked. This dish was maybe 3 out of 5 for me.
I dont like to write bad reviews, I like to find the good in a place and review towards the restaurants strengths. However, upon reflection, I cant in good conscious recommended any of the dishes I had, nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone in general. Feel free to explore yourself, but I wont be returning anytime soon.
