5 /5 David Neely: Once in a while you step into a restaurant that makes you feel right at home. This place does exactly that. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and seated like old friends, even though half our group had never been there before.
We quickly learned this is a true family-run spot—mom, son, and daughter—and that warmth shows through in every detail: the service, the cleanliness, the décor, and especially the food presentation.
We started with chips, a fresh cabbage mix, and generous bowls of house-made salsa that had just the right kick. For those who like it hotter, they thoughtfully offer bottles of well-known hot sauces: Tapatio (3,000 Scoville Heat Units SHU), El Yucateco green habanero (7,900 SHU), and El Yucateco red habanero (7,600–9,500 SHU). For comparison, classic Tabasco ranges 2,500–5,000 SHU. I really appreciated the attention to detail in giving customers a choice of heat levels.
The service was fantastic. Drinks and salsa were refilled promptly, and everything came with a smile. My chimichanga was perfectly crisp—not greasy, as we’ve found at other places—and the Mexican rice was light and flavorful.
My wife ordered a chicken taco salad and asked if she could add shrimp, even though it wasn’t on the menu. Without hesitation, our server replied, “No problem, my friend.” The shrimp arrived grilled to perfection. Even better, the hot ingredients were served inside the taco shell, while the lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cheese were placed on the side. No soggy lettuce on hot meat—a thoughtful and refreshing presentation.
Everyone in our party raved about their meals. Portions were so generous that most of us needed boxes to take food home.
Final thoughts: Next time we make the 9-hour trip back to this area, this will be our go-to restaurant. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
