1 /5 Sarah Goins: Today was All Saints’ Day so I came as a visitor to this parish. I went to receive Holy Communion on my tongue and the parish priest, Fr Richard McCallister, visibly recoiled and leaned back exaggeratedly while placing Holy Communion on my tongue. It was very rude, and publicly embarrassing. It is an age old tradition to receive Communion on the tongue (many Saints praise this, ironically) and it is part of what is culturally acceptable as an Indian person from my community and acknowledged by the Church presently as an acceptable practice in the liturgy. I have received Communion this way without any bad experiences at several parishes in Seattle and Tacoma. A very unwelcoming experience. One star for the good music and hymns.
