4 /5 Ashley Christine: I went to church for the first time in many years, hoping to find what church offers at Sage Hills. It was a beautiful facility, and the community it has created was clearly so strong and connected.
However, the service was tone deaf. We were lectured about tithing for 20 minutes, without a single, fleeting mention of the wildfires just south of us in LA this week, that have displaced hundreds of families and killed so far 24. Not one single mention of the horrors of the greater world, or a reminder of how our prosperity could support others in dire need. Instead, a strict reinforcement of giving money, which is also harder to come by in such an inflationary time, back to the church.
It just felt very disconnected, and reinforced a bit, that religion can live under a rock.
