5 /5 Kelsey Gonzalez: We moved to Puyallup from Texas in 2022 and immediately started looking for churches in the area.
Within a few weeks of us landing on Sufficient Grace, our son had an accident that turned into an ambulance ride to the ER and some really stressful and anxious hours following that. I was pregnant with my third kid at the time and the ambulance driver told me that I couldn’t ride with them because I was pregnant so I watched them drive away with my son and husband.
It just so happened that we were hosting a family from Sufficient Grace for dinner that night and they immediately jumped in and offered to have one of them stay at my house to watch the rest of the kids while the other drove me to the ER. I was so shaken up and I didn’t know the area yet so it was great that she did that.
On the car ride I was calling friends and family members to pray for our son and trying so hard not to think about the worst case scenario. We got to the hospital, I met up with my husband and the two of us stayed with our son while the other couple stayed at my home and took care of our other kiddo (and theirs). They ended up cleaning up the house and helping us out tremendously.
Back at the hospital we were waiting for scans to come back and to hear from the doctors when Pastor Noah (the lead pastor at Sufficient Grace) showed up to show his support. He barely knew us, I definitely didn’t expect him to show up at the hospital, but we felt so supported having him there to pray with and talk to.
A few hours later we got all of his scans back and he ended up have ZERO injuries! He was completely fine. So we were discharged and went home. The next day we had care packages and meals brought to us from people at Sufficient Grace (and neighbors).
I couldn’t believe these people who haven’t even met us yet, were so caring and generous. Now fast forward to 2025 and we are living life alongside them, know many of them deeply and I can honestly say this feels like family. I’ve seen them come alongside to serve other people with no questions in big ways countless times since that 2021 experience. The people are not the reason we chose this church (we put a heavy emphasis on doctrine) BUT their vision for reaching other people for Jesus here and for serving each other- that’s something I want to be a part of.
