Back in 1958 it took a $2,000 loan, a bit of foresight and some good old fashion work by a group of local ranchers who purchased a County Fair style carousel with 24 hand-carved horses in Tacoma, loaded the contraption into the back of a wheat truck and hauled it over the Cascade Mountains to the foothills of the Kettle River Range and set it up on the Ferry County Fairgrounds. That was 1958. The traveling carnival merry-go-round was built by the Armitage-Herschell Company sometime in the late 1890’s during the “golden age” of wooden carousels”.
