1 /5 Molly Artz: I took my car in on July 17th for an oil change and because my wiper fluid had congealed. I asked for a diagnostic since my car had not been looked at for a while. They called with various issues from the diagnostic and said in order to fix the wiper fluid they would need to take things apart and run another diagnostic to figure out what was causing it. I said no, thinking they would still be able to remove the congealed wiper fluid and also I was unwilling to pay for an additional diagnostic since they had already sent me a report with many other issues with my car. They said they would try to have the car ready that afternoon although I received no call. I got a call the next day saying that my check engine light had come on – which had NOT been on when I dropped it off. They asked me if I wanted to pay for an additional diagnostic for $150 to address the light, which I refused since they had already run one diagnostic and the light had not been on when I brought it in. I said I would take the car elsewhere and they said they would tell the numbers that were being reported from the check engine light and call back. They did not call back and when I called two hours later they still had to return my call because they weren’t able to tell me what was going on. When I got to the shop he said it was something about a gap in one of the spark plugs caused the check engine light because it had been done incorrectly before. I was fairly certain they had done the previous spark plugs and they had in April of 2023. So they did end up fixing that, but it was frustrating that I had been called and they tried to charge me $150 for the check engine light that came on while in their shop!! It really made me lose trust in the business.
When my car was returned, the windshield wiper fluid had not been taken care of. When I called they said this was because I had refused a diagnostic, which was needed in order to fix the issue. I was under the impression that they would be fixing the wiper fluid but would not be able to tell me why it had congealed.
As if they hadn’t done enough to lose my trust: when they sent me the initial report on my car Thursday, there was no mention of a check engine light. After it came on WHILE IN THEIR POSSESSION, they updated the report to say the check engine light had been on prior to service. The picture where the check engine light is on was time stamped and was clearly taken the day after they began working on it.
My partner then called the shop and finally talked to someone else, Alex. He expressed sympathy that the issue with the wiper fluid hadn’t been taken care of and didn’t seem to understand why it hadn’t but the tech that had worked on it was gone for the day. Alex said if we brought it back they could look and it and take care of it for free. Previously I had only interacted with Robert Moran. We had to bring the car back in and talked again to Robert. When we brought up the issue with the report he blamed that on his team, but he was the one who tried to charge me for the check engine light diagnostic! He said they would cover the labor and I would need to pay for parts for the windshield fluid issue. It ended up being the nozzle was clogged and they were able to fix it. It did not make sense to me why they weren’t able to do that on day one.
I have been taking my car to this shop since back when it was Good Neighbor, but I will never take it back again and I would recommend others consider going elsewhere.
