Lorena Terres I had a deeply upsetting experience during my recent visit to Virginia Mason at Bellevue, I went for a vaginal ultrasound. The way I was treated left me feeling uncomfortable and distressed,
During the procedure, the nurse demonstrated a complete lack of communication and empathy. While I understand that some pressure is required during an ultrasound, there were times when the nurse applied significant pressure to my belly, but she never warned me beforehand or explained what she was doing. This left me feeling unprepared and uncomfortable, as I was caught off guard each time she applied force. As a patient, I believe it is essential to receive clear communication before such actions so that I can mentally prepare and feel more at ease. The nurse did not provide any explanation or heads-up, which I found very distressing and unacceptable.
Additionally, the nurse was dismissive throughout the entire appointment. She did not make eye contact with me, nor did she engage in any kind of conversation or explanation. When the procedure ended, she simply said, “OK, you can go,” without offering any further acknowledgment or care. The lack of empathy and communication, combined with the abrupt manner in which the procedure was carried out, left me feeling deeply upset.
It’s important for healthcare providers, particularly those performing intimate exams, to approach patients with respect, clear communication, and sensitivity. I want to emphasize that many patients, like myself, may have emotional triggers that make certain situations even more difficult. This experience made me feel emotionally shaken and unable to continue with the ultrasound.
I kindly ask that you review the procedures followed by staff, ensuring that nurses are trained in providing clear explanations and maintaining a compassionate approach, particularly when performing procedures that may be uncomfortable or involve physical contact. I truly believe that by improving communication and sensitivity, you can create a more supportive and respectful environment for all patients.
I would appreciate hearing back from you regarding any steps that will be taken to address this matter. I sincerely hope that this feedback leads to positive change and ensures that other patients do not have to endure a similar experience.

Rachel R Thank you Virginia Mason for your care! Kirk is the best nurse you could have, he is incredibly professional and understanding. The staff was all pleasant as well and this location looks like it was newly remodeled. It’s nice and clean.
